Anytime you have a minute free, we could meet here at the office or grab some coffee, and I'll tellyou about the ins and outs of our monitoring program. My favorite new coffee place is The Hub on Cheney.
I just got back from Austin. We got some money to put a NCC crew on the Toiyabe Crest Trail for a month. Alas... The dog days of summer will be over too soon.

Hey Billy, I just wanted to let you know, we're ramping up our monitoring/inventory efforts in the Mt. Rose Wilderness this summer and will be reimbursing volunteers for travel expenses--sooo if you're planning on pokin around the Carson Range we can help you out.

We ask that you bring your personal gear, it's nice if you can get all your gear into one pack if you're going to ride with me or someone else. I usually have a forest service rig and then others are willing to take passengers. I cook Saturday night, and light breakfast and coffee is on us. You should bring a lunch for the workday and some snacks to sustain you, Friends provides some food but does not cater the whole trip. I tend to buy too much food though. We'll leave Friday afternoon, people can park at our office in downtown Reno, and we'll return Sunday afternoon/evening. I like to hike a bit on Sunday, but that depends on the pulse of the volunteers. Maybe something in the Bald Mtn. area or the Wellington Hills. There might be snow.

The yellow flowers are in Catnip Res. in the Sheldon Refuge, they're Desert Primrose.
The pic of the sand and clouds is Sand Mountain, a vol had never been there before so we stopped. I don't really enjoy the place.
The pic with the chains is an old swing at a guard station in the Schell Creek range.

I have a presentation for ENACT on the 20th and we're putting on a presentaion at Orvis March 5th.

I'm stoked, we might be recieving a chunk of stimulus money to aid the BLM and FS in management elements (Crossing fingers). Could increase our capacity by 100%

Using snowshoes as the main means to approach the backcountry is really tough, especially with a board strapped touour back. That's why a lot of riders just take the path of least resistance and buy a snowmobile. I'm actually thinking about taking up skiing so I can stay in the wilderness and not sell my soul to the resort-devil. Convertible Split-boards are running close to a thousand bucks, while I can find some old skis for cheap.

Like the graphic, sounds like you're well-tuned in. Wish I'd known about your previous hikes. I love the Incline, Ginny areas, do a lot of backcountry boardin there. Snow is very bad right now and the snowmobile tracks are totally glazed over into little halfpipes making snowshoeing a total endeavor. I'd almost rather deal with the masses at the resort right now.

I might know that area you're talking about. The Virginias are superb, but being so close to Reno, they're getting hammered by a lot of peeps.
My first project of the year will be Mar 13th-15th down near Bridgeport. Our website nevadawilderness.org has more details.
I'll also be leading a Sierra Club snowshoe (hopefully, bad ACL) near Tahoe Meadows in some newly acquired FS land on the 7th.

The Sierra Club needs younger folks to get involved.

As far as I remember I visited this site just before coming here. I attended college at Istanbul but I'm from Izmir. Though bosphorus is quite green and the sea passes across the Istanbul, Ankara is not green at all :(. This was one of the main reasons why I preferred Istanbul to attend a university.
