Fri 9/4/09 75 pounds of worms were delivered today. I walled off half of the 6 x 20 bin to create a 6 x 10' area. I covered that area with shredded paper and saturated that paper with water. Then I dumped out the worms which came in 5 lb bags onto about half of that area. The worms covered about 6 x 5' this was a smaller space then what the worms would normally fill but I had a limited amount of food with which to cover them so I wanted to reduce the surface area I had to cover and the chance th… Continue

Do you ever get that feeling that you could have done a little more? Like you could have done a little better or worked a little harder? It's hard to keep the momentum going until that very last moment. I've got one more 7-10 pg paper to write and I'll be free for one long luxurious week. I will begin to catch up on projects which have been temporarily stalled. I will have time to plan events for the fall and summer and prepare for classes beginning again Monday. As the tension rises at the end of the semester I am constantly reminding myself that it will all be over in just a few days, then we can enjoy camping and outdoor activities galore. Just next weekend we'll be heading to Yosemite to enjoy the falls at their prime. The weekend after we will enjoy our first rafting trip in Sequoia Forest. Sometimes you're just trotting along and everything seems fine but then the littlest thing can ruin it all. Nearing the end of the semester is a relief, I feel I've completed most everything I need to do (except a few more required blog posts) but I'm already starting to feel the stress of all the things I've been putting off until the semester is over and of the beginning of summer classes. We did build the first worm bin and we had some materials left over which we do plan to use in the future, probably over the summer. Sometime shortly before June 7th, when the DC will re-open for summer, we will be filling the bin with worms and begin composting. The DC has promised to match the funds we raised (~3,700) so we have plenty of money to expand the system when our worms double.
