So much to talk about-networking in the community for UNAE 310

I wanted to briefly touch on all the networking and connections made throughout this project with businesses and individuals. Thanks to Mattie Melrose, we had many great speakers come to our class who all presented viable options and ideas that could potentially see the further success of this project. Craig Whitt brought us the idea of using wind row composting, Darren Murphy presented us with his way to compost with red worms, Leslie Allen helped brainstorm with us on ways to get the community… Continue

Bin Building Review

We constructed out bin around the middle of April. It took about three plus hours to put together and undulates like a worm. It is three cinderblocks high, and about ninety feet long. We were successful in its completion and now we are waiting for worms to be put into it. It was nice to have everyone work together and to finally see some of our hard work be physically manifested rather than planning and planning with no results. Darren Murphy, the founder of Sierra Worm Solutions, graciously don… Continue

Many Multiple Monday Updates

There is a huge re-cap needed which I will be doing throughout the day today. UNAE 310 is finished as a class but I feel confident that our goals in this aren't going to end with it. Last Wednesdays meeting went in my mind really well so I believe I will start with a brief review summary of my thoughts and feelings on how that went. There were some topics of the discussion that I wasn't expecting to hear about since we hadn't addressed these as a group. For example, it would be a great idea to g… Continue

Update on Composting

So I am a little behind on this but, I still need to update it for class purposes and for a general update for everyone on the site! As some of you know, we will be able to start composting! After meeting with Kevin, we found out that we have land and after meeting with Darren, we have a somewhat viable plan, or at least, a candlelight at the end of the tunnel. Questions are beginning to be answered about what system is preferable to the other. The first prospectus draft, a rough outline of our… Continue

First blog for composting project

So I am in the UNAE 310 class that is in the process of figuring out the feasibility of creating a composting system for the DC and eventually the whole school...which would be AWESOME. For each class we are supposed to have journal entries and as I've seen through this page, many of my fellow students have already posted their questions. I, myself have some of my own. That is why I am here. I am really interested in what the university has to offer in terms of availability of vehicles and money… Continue
