In one week I've gotten much further on the coal forum coordination than I expected.
I've made contact with Sierra Pacific and the attorney general who are awaiting a confirmed date and "what do we do?" from me. I'm waiting to hear back from the Joe so I can set a date (sometime in the last two weeks of April). Once I get a date and tell those two people and I can go to Harry Reid's people and tell him the dates and that important people will be there. It's a weird domino effect.
I have three confirmed panelists: UNR Environmental Affairs Manager John Sagebiel, PhD, Government Affairs and Public Relations officer for Sempra Tom Clark and KUNR/KUNPR (in Reno and Las Vegas) radio talk show host Brian Bahouth. I need two more panelists. I'm thinking a Nevada Department of Environmental Protection person and perhaps someone who deals with coal in the business and engineering perspective.
I also just thought of a great idea I hope Mr. Bahouth will help me with. I want to do a preview session with him on the air where we ask listeners what they want to know or want to find out about the coal issue if they were to go/are going to attend the forum and then to ask them to help me fine tune the format since his is a live talk show. Then use those questions for discussion points in the forum or to ask questions from people who couldn't make it "such and such of Las Vegas who couldn't be here wants to know X?"
I think that's about as public journalism as you can get.
