University of Nevada Environment

There is a huge re-cap needed which I will be doing throughout the day today. UNAE 310 is finished as a class but I feel confident that our goals in this aren't going to end with it. Last Wednesdays meeting went in my mind really well so I believe I will start with a brief review summary of my thoughts and feelings on how that went. There were some topics of the discussion that I wasn't expecting to hear about since we hadn't addressed these as a group. For example, it would be a great idea to get compostable containers for the DC; however, since the DC isn't composting in the first place, what sense would it make to just send those containers to the landfill? Especially when they are going to be in giant plastic bags. That one came out of left field. I felt it was a good idea had the goal of the class been to get post consumer waste composted in this semester. Nonetheless, it was awesome to hear that Barbara and Russ' concerns were the same as ours and that we were able to answer their questions and give some great insight. The longevity of this project plus getting the students of the university "in-the-know" are the most important aspects of this project. I feel like the more people that know about this, the greater interest and response we will receive. In a far off note, the vermicomposting system could be something that makes the difference for someone's decision to come to the university because it shows that we are making progress in the right direction with the possibility of advancing the "GREENNESS" of the campus. All in all, one more bed has been funded, worms are on their way, and it looks as if, for now, this project is still afloat.
