Recycling in the Joe Crowley Student Union

Okay so this kind of strange to me. I work in The JCSU and use a lot of paper and drink soda. In my office there are blue recycle bins for paper and things but when our custodian comes by he only has a trash can that everything goes into. It's my understanding paper is our responsibility but what about bottles and cans? I don't see anywhere to put these and it defeats the purpose for the recycling bins to be dumped in the trash.

What do you guys know about this? SEEDS, you tackle The Joe a lot, am I just not looking in the right places or is there something else here?

Hey,

The food services do not have to recycle because the company is allowed to use whatever materials and dispose of them in terms of company policy.

Is there anything we can do to change their minds?

I know that Chuck Price has been trying to work things out with the companies, but I haven't heard from him since before the middle of the semester

Turns out that Virginia isn't correct, at all, when it comes to the Joe. Chuck just called me to let me know that he is working really, really hard to get the Tahoe Creamery on board and that EVERY food service entity in the Joe is recycling. Especially their cardboard, but for instance, Starbucks is recycling all of its milk containers and cans, etc., and its coffee grounds are being composted. Has anyone written any Sagebrush articles about the Joe's HUGELY successful efforts to get everyone in there to recycle? Chuck offered to give a presentation about this -- I think it should be a forum where everyone on campus can come here him.

I am sorry about the bad information. My information was from a while ago and it was involving the materials that the food was in. Chuck was trying to work out a deal with the smoothie place because they didn't want to stop using the Styrofoam cup the company supplies.
